What is your favorite art medium to work in, and why?

Paint. All types depending on my mood and what i want to accomplish. I love the freedom of creating a multi-dimensional reality on a flat plane. I see a painting as a portal to your imagination.

When did you first figure out that art was important to you?

I was a late bloomer. I had became interested in art by the end of high school, but when i was about 20 the love of creating art grabbed me and never let go. When i realized that viewing art can not only be therapeutic, but can act as a catalyst that helps influence people to understand theirselves and others better, i decided that i wanted to be an artist. Art can heal, and voice the opinions of the unheard. Art has also guided me on my own self discoveries on this journey of finding out who we are and what we are meant to do.

Who is your art mentor?

I have always looked to my peers and local masters to mentor my art path. Of course locally: Anthony Machado, Jeff Jordan, and Duane Flatmo have helped me much along the way with advice, techniques, and shared experiences. But the art spirit is large and influences come from most paintings and images that i see. We all influence each other to some degree.

What advice would you offer someone just beginning their exploration of their own artistic self?

As most would say, stay true to yourself and never let go of your grand vision. You never know how you will end up developing your art in the future, so stay open to all mediums- techniques are tools and some are easier to attain through photography or sculpture rather than painting. Keep the tool box open and you will end up with more tools.
