May Arts Alive!

In continuation of the Ink People’s annual color-themed show, the Tuxford Gallery welcomes Gold: Studies in Gilding the Lily showing throughout the month of May. All work will explore the color gold and is curated by Kati Texas. The show opens with a reception 6-9 pm during Arts Alive! on Saturday May 3. Come experience what Ink People artists are creating through the inspiration of gold color.

Also beginning this Arts Alive!, local students will share their insights on the topic of driving safety in the Brenda gallery. Forty-nine entries were received from students across the county. The top ten entries were selected by a panel of judges. The students from the Ink People’s Rural Burl Mural Bureau will also have an installation in the gallery. The event will offer the public a unique opportunity see the creativity and insight of some very talented local youth.

The Open Heart Show

Cultivating love, forgiveness, and heroes of social justice

During the month of April, The Ink People will be hosting the Open Heart Show, featuring expressions of love, forgiveness, and social justice. The Open Heart Show was created with the intention of encouraging artists to examine their experience of love, forgiveness, and/ or social justice. Artists are then contributing artwork that was created out of this journey of self-exploration.

You won’t want to miss the Open Heart Show’s opening, 6-9PM during Arts Alive! on April 5, which will feature a one-time only viewing of the performance-based contributions to the show. Damiian Lang will be hosting a talk show along the theme of his new book Making Love in Traffic. Many talk show guests will be featured including Dillon Reed Wyant who will be working words to open ideas with his poems. Attendees will also be invited to experience a short film entitled Smartee Loves Hank by David DeAngelo, Tyler Pacini, Steve Spain, and Evan Wrye.

Spring Classes at the Ink People

Spring is in the air! If you or someone you know feels the need for a change of pace from winter’s boring rut, then look no further … snap out of the wintertime doldrums with one of our fun spring classes!

Some of the groups that meet regularly are the Redwood Writers’ Group, the Rural Burl Mural Bureau, the MARZ program, the ABC Group, and the Yoga class.

The Redwood Writers’ Group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm in the Drawing & Painting studio at The Ink People. The group meets to discuss and critique the group’s writing from the week prior. New members are always welcome; there is a suggested donation of $1.

The Rural Burl Mural Bureau is a fantastic program aimed at keeping graffiti off of Eureka’s buildings while administering to the youth of the Eureka area. Headed by Kati Texas, RBMB meets Saturdays and Sundays in the Printmaking Studio at The Ink People. Teens and young adults from the ages of 14-21 are welcome to drop in on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 am - 3 pm. There is no charge. [Read more →]

Local Artists Make $30,213!

The Ink People Center for the Arts Holiday Gift Fair, in its new location and new date, resulted in sales amounting to $30,213.00. The 57 vendor tables included a wide range of handcrafted artwares. And there was quite a range: ceramics, silkscreen and litho artprints, t-shirts, silver and gold jewelry, weaving, and many one-of-a-kind items.

As in the past the live music included many local musicians and music styles. This year there was a focus on local songwriters.

After 4 happy years the Holiday Gift Fair moved from the Municipal Auditorium to the Adorni Center. More important the date changed. The rain was always a factor before. The weather this year was, in a word, GREAT!

Not only did the artists have a relatively prosperous time (there have been better years), but the weather was perfect on Sunday. The spirits were especially high when Rose Bell’s son announced here birthday, she was 100 years old! Needless to say she made us all feel good with her own high spirits and energy. She even danced.

A big thanks to all who helped support this year’s Holiday Gift Fair.
