Si, Se Puede! Expressiones de La Cultura Latina

Acrylic Painting on Canvas by Jamie Binder                                          “Adrift” Oil on Canvas by Alejandro Escudero Ochoa

Si, Se Puede: Expressions of Latino Culture exhibit at the Ink People.

For the last several years, show founder and curator, Jamie Binder, worked seemingly tirelessly to make connections and encourage Latino artists to make art and share it with the community.  This past year, we lost Jamie to the universe, but his spirit is still alive in this exhibit that he cared so much about.  The show is dedicated to his memory, and his wife, Carol, is sharing some of her favorite paintings of his with us.  As always, local Latino artists will share their unique visions and celebrate the vibrant Latino culture.

Also dear to Jamie’s heart was initiating a local public celebration of Mexican Independence Day on September 16th.  Thanks to Suzanne Guerra and Helen L’Annunziata, this will continue.  First 5 Humboldt’s Better Together Program is helping to fund this celebration.  For more details or to volunteer to help, please contact Suzanne at sguerra@humboldt1.com.

The Open Heart Show

Cultivating love, forgiveness, and heroes of social justice

During the month of April, The Ink People will be hosting the Open Heart Show, featuring expressions of love, forgiveness, and social justice. The Open Heart Show was created with the intention of encouraging artists to examine their experience of love, forgiveness, and/ or social justice. Artists are then contributing artwork that was created out of this journey of self-exploration.

You won’t want to miss the Open Heart Show’s opening, 6-9PM during Arts Alive! on April 5, which will feature a one-time only viewing of the performance-based contributions to the show. Damiian Lang will be hosting a talk show along the theme of his new book Making Love in Traffic. Many talk show guests will be featured including Dillon Reed Wyant who will be working words to open ideas with his poems. Attendees will also be invited to experience a short film entitled Smartee Loves Hank by David DeAngelo, Tyler Pacini, Steve Spain, and Evan Wrye.
